tussled back seat passing,
Don't Ask Me That
Wait and see

spent the day in the grass,
and you were out there, only way out
so far I couldn't see you by the water
only you could see me laying in the leaves, throwing the crispy brown ones over my eyes.
Maybe I wasn't satisfied, or maybe you were mad,
but I heard your ripples splashing on the shore
I thought you'd swim half cross the planet for sure
I gather what you give me,
you hand it down the line
you're quiet in the water,
I'm quiet left behind.
No, I'm not alone.
I slip into your ripples,
feel your movements from far away
Sometimes I forget how I got to where I came,
looking back as if the past were there to blame
and it is, only its fading,
but its so solid around your frame.
I can't always feel your arm, but I can feel your heart,
beating through wind and rain.
and when I want to see you,
I can because you're in my dreams. Materializing in the clouds as I drive.
There's too much just now, the sky begins to darken
but you see that I can't control that nature is chaos.
so you come up from the water,
brush the leaves off my face,
and we become a single silhouette near a tree.
Instant regression,
Long days like repeating fossils, caving in one by one
Into the crust of space, of all those things that make waking life plain.
I speak up, but theres a block in the room, noises muffled, bouncing round the corners, slipping out the windows,
And im mouthing out the words you won’t hear.
And I’m passing you a thought that you probably already knew
So who cares,
Leave them there,
Our dark little corner, little lost pair.
No ones waiting for the bar to close but us,
We’ve got no where to be and I love you
So you think I’m a fake when I lose composure,
And you wish I was together like a muse you once knew.
Guess I’m just testing time cuz it feels so deceptive
We arrived in time to dream before I got to say goodnight
Morning, comes, the brilliant sun
Your empty space,
I don’t want to today.
And what now?
The sun is undead,
and so it was yesterday
and the day before.
But I went down, got down,
and I came back to tell you of the
things around there.
The scuttling empires, the tea kettle kept screams.
You can hear everyone sleeping and the night terrors they might
dream.
The plastic books, and the paper dresses.
The sky swirls together the
heavy clouds and rusted air ships, monstrous metal horrors that float like feather-ton boulders just feet above
our heads.
And what now?
Yes, I am those things too.
And I pressed my lips against your collar,
so they are you.
Silver don't block sadness,
and gold don't blow out madness.
What we have here now,
is a mine of mind and soul.
Both are victim to the ugliest things you can imagine.
I am sorry,
I am what I am,
and you are of me.
And what now?
The sun is undead,
and so it was yesterday
and the day before.
But I went down, got down,
and I came back to tell you of the
things around there.
The scuttling empires, the tea kettle kept screams.
